Tis the season for graduation and along with that comes excitement for new beginnings. Admiral Bill McRaven gave an amazing commencement address at the University of Texas. In it, he provided 10 life lessons to change the world and it all starts with lesson number 1 – If you want to change the world, start off by making your bed.
Coming from a Navy SEAL of 36 years, his points are not to be taken lightly and you don’t have to be in the military for them to apply either. His lessons can be taken both literally as well as metaphorically.
What I took away from his amazing speech was that discipline combined with determination (heart), combined with compassion, combined with fearlessness (to fail and to succeed), combined with humility will make you successful in any path of life you choose. Don’t be afraid of failure, don’t be afraid to succeed and be purposeful about your actions.
