Gratitude

“Gratitude is the greatest guarantee of continual successful interaction with the world over an entire lifetime.” – Dan Sullivan

In the past, I’ve talked about the importance of positive thinking and attitude. Gratitude is an important part of the formula for success. By showing gratitude, you will improve your attitude and enhance your positive thinking. Often, at the end of the day, many of us look back and reflect on everything that occurred and all of our interactions. Instead, we should focus on what went right. We need to show gratitude for all we have, and prepare ourselves to experience the joys that are in store for us the next day. Showing gratitude will enhance our attitude and result in more positive thinking. Ask yourself, “What are we grateful for? Who are we grateful to?”

Recently I had a client share his experience with extending gratitude. An assignment given to him in our workshop was to send out a handwritten thank you letter showing gratitude to someone in your life. The client sent two thank you cards; one went to the company owner and his wife, and the other to the CFO of the company.  While having lunch with the CFO the next week, the owner of the company approached him and thanked him for sending the card. This seemingly small gesture left a large impression on the company owner.  We should not assume others know we are grateful for them, we need to tell them.

So here is my action item for you, Show gratitude. I would like for you to send 3 or more handwritten thank you notes to anyone in your life you are grateful for.
